MPAL provides a variety of athletic programming where the emphasis is not only on building physical skill, but also respect, responsibility, and community. Current athletics include Aikido, Boxing, Skateboarding and Wrestling. Aikido is a Japanese art of self defense using locks, holds and principles of nonresistance to cause an opponent’s own momentum to work against them. Baton Twirling and Juggling are great athletic programs (ages 5+) and a Kid’s Play Group (ages 5-8) are new additions. Boxing provides an intense workout for those interested in improving their physical health and their mental strength. Boxing is about discipline and working out. Those who desire, and put in consistent work, may go in the ring to take mitts or spar. Skateboarding uses MPAL’s pop-up indoor skatepark to help kids ages 10+ learn to skate or advance their skills to the next level with a team of local skaters as coaches. Wrestling is a sport involving grappling-type techniques between two competitors who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position. Sign up required.
